#WriteDecision Blog -- One Year On

Fifty-two weeks (or so) since I started a new blog and I'm still here (for the most part)

2023. Another year where we moved ever closer toward the dystopian future. Minus all the leather, that is.

Do you know how hot leather gets in an apocalyptic desert? It's brutally uncomfortable. Ask a cow about it.

Stuff happened in 2023. Then more stuff happened. The whole Barbenheimer thing broke the year up, followed by more stuff.

One thing occurred on March 19, 2023. After years of creative drought, I reignited, reinvigorated, and reintroduced blogging to my life. Fifty-two weeks and a few days later, the #WriteDecisions blog is so far, so good. Steady as they go. Generally, it's hunky dory.

Forty-two articles (including this one) are active for your reading pleasure. With approximately 400 words per entry, I've written nearly 17,000 words.

My History of Blogging

The comprehensive history of my blogging reads like a Model T with a combustion issue. Sometimes, the automobile kept going. Other times, it sputtered to a stop, and I needed to show a bit of gam to get help from a passerby.

A small portion of the issue was neurodivergence. My brain wasn't working on all cylinders during those aborted attempts. As a result, I felt more ennui over elation when I put keys to the screen.

The rest was pure laziness. It's a condition I continue to battle even with proper medications, therapy, and ongoing Gamma radiation treatments. By the way, don't tell me I'm lazy. I'd get angry, and you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. Rich Scott Smash!

The result was a strong blogging beginning, followed weeks later by a weak finish. It wasn't even a finish. It was more of a "Meh, I don't care" mentality.

What Changed?

What changed for the #WriteDecisions blog was a new thought process. Determination replaced disinterest. Consideration replaced spontaneity (some, not all). Thoughtlessness morphed into planning.

Basically, I wanted to show myself and the reading public that I could produce a weekly-ish article. No matter what transpired or how crummy I felt, I would create a regular entry. That's why I started with a monthly post to build momentum. Eventually, I switched to bi-weekly, then every seven days.

Have I touched base each week? Since the summer of 2023, the answer is yes. The exception was the week before this one. It was a period where chronic illness took precedence over creativity. In other words, I was sick as a dog.

Year Two

I'm not giving up because I reached this milestone. That was what I'd do in the Dark Times. Today, I'm updating #WriteDecisions articles to ensure they’re uniform here and in the interwebs. Plus, I have four months of draft articles ready to be written and enjoyed. In other words, I'm smoother these days, like the Model A was more than a century ago.

This is good because my gams aren't what they used to be.

What Did We Learn Today, Rich?

Persistence is better than surrendering. Your task may look daunting but ends up being simple once completed.

All the best.
